Simply Morris is Simply Stunning

A collection of Fabrics and Wallpapers to bring joy

Back in March this year we wrote about the Simply Morris Collection from William Morris to bring you some fresh new ideas for Spring. Well, with such a broad and desirable range of designs we felt it was time to revisit the Simply Morris Collection in time for Autumn, because fabrics and wallpapers as stunning as this deserve to be shared.

In the first of a small series, we are looking at some key ways these designs can be incorporated into your home. Simply Morris as we discovered before has taken classic Morris prints and patterns and reimagined them with a modern palette – so how could you use some of these fabrics in your own scheme?

Subtle and classic yet still perfect for the modern home

Starting with a fabric like Simply Severn in the Bayleaf and Annatto colourway, it’s the perfect choice for adding a touch of class and sophistication to any window dressing. This dual-purpose fabric produced on a soft cotton/linen blend, was originally designed by J.H. Dearle in 1880 and printed at the Morris Merton Abbey workshop in South London. An elegant damask of acanthus leaves framing a central flowerhead, this is a new design for the Simply Morris collection and as shown above works as a subtle yet engaging choice for curtain fabric.

Add a much needed touch of pattern in an otherwise minimal scheme

The classic Strawberry Thief motif of course pictures a cheeky bird pecking at delicious strawberries on this iconic Morris & Co. fabric. Faithfully reproduced on 100% cotton, subtle textures retain the look of the original hand-printed design. Suitable for elegantly flowing drapes of course why not consider Strawberry Thief as a pattern accent in your bathroom? As the Woad colourway shows above the modern blue palette works just as well in a more minimal aesthetic to add some much-needed interest in schemes where white dominates.

And what about a fruit motif fabric for your sofa or chair upholstery? First produced as a wallpaper in 1864, Fruit is one of Morris’s earliest designs. Displaying an abundance of ripened pomegranates hanging from the branches of an overflowing tree, flora and fauna entwine to give this fabric greater depth. Available in a cotton linen blend, Fruit is suitable for both drapes and upholstery and as shown below really does add an extra wow factor to an otherwise simple scheme where you need to introduce a little extra pizazz.

The best thing about the Simply Morris collection is the range of colours and patterns which really make in evergreen whatever the seasons weather might look like outside. From warmer autumnal shades to fresher hues because each look incorporates such a varied palette these fabrics will never look dull or dated within your own home.
