Simply Morris Wallpapers

Three looks that feel fresh and modern

In our final piece focusing on the Simply Morris collection by Sanderson Design Group we are showcasing three wallpapers from the range and showing you how they can be applied in the same room setting to create a fresh and modern feel full of vibrancy that you might not associate with a brand steeped in as much history as William Morris.

The Simply Morris collection honours history with its layering patterns and charm only found within an English country garden but don’t think this means you can’t apply these wallpapers to a more contemporary scheme. These are evergreen classics that work for most homes so lets explore what might work best in a look that has a touch of traditional whilst also looking forward.

Starting with the St James Ceiling Wallpaper in the Willow colourway, this multi-directional paper was originally designed by William Morris as part of a commission for the redecoration of the Grand Staircase in St James’s Palace, London in 1881. As a surface printed wallpaper it retains a beautiful opaque chalky finish and is also available in Sunflower and China Blue. As showcased below this feels really appropriate for the more modern home when partnered with minimal touches and an overall neutral aesthetic.

First produced in 1887, Willow Boughs is one of William Morris most instantly recognisable patterns. Surface printed in a fresh new colour palette, entwining stems and delicate willow leaves combine in this enduring design which defines Morris’s abiding reputation. Shown below in Leaf Green the background has been kept white in this iteration for the Simply Morris collection which again makes it feel perfectly suitable for less fussy home where you still want a nod to history in certain areas. This version of Willow Boughs is also available in three other colourways - Woad, Linen and Willow/Sea Glass.

Finally we have the William Morris Fruit motif updated on wallpaper in a more subtle Slate and Vellum colour palette. The pattern still remains strong here but the original punchy colours that adorn the pomegranates have been given an almost bleached out and faded effect which feels incredibly subtle yet still striking. As shown here its the perfect paper to make a statement in an entrance area or guest bedroom.
