Wonderous Spring Wanderlust
With the new Wedgewood Botanical Wonders Collection from Clarke & Clarke
When you think of Wedgewood your mind might journey to their iconic Jasperware – widely recognised as Josiah Wedgewood’s signature ceramic style and the birth of ‘Wedgewood Blue’.
Fast-forward 263 years from 1759 and Wedgewood continues to be renowned for craftsmanship, wonderous creativity, and style. It seems only fitting therefore that the new Spring Summer Wedgewood collection by Clarke & Clarke is named Botanical Wonders.
From the tantalising teal velvet of Emerald Forest shown here adorning a suitably stylish sofa, to the tropical colours emanating from the strikingly vibrant Citron Wonderlust Tea Story wallpaper in the background – this new range really has taken the rule book and torn it up – and it’s got us all excited here at Soft Options.
Because this collection is proof positive that clashing colours and patterns really do work. Yes, these designs are strong, and it takes an interiors vision with more than a dash of bravery to pull it off. But if you’re drawn to the world of colour that these wallpapers and fabrics offer then this spring is the perfect time to take the plunge creatively and swim in the deep end.
When it comes to the vivid yellows and pinks in the Emerald Forest & Wonderlust Tea Story palette - everything is kept grounded by the more mature tones used throughout. Centring this kind of look on a rug which picks out the darkest shade of green is a sensible design decision which keeps everything feeling adult yet still fantastically adventurous.
The Golden Parrot wallpaper in Coral features one of the most deliciously tantalising reds we’ve seen in a long time. Its namesake parrot is found in the south of the Amazon and the bright yellow plumage contrasting with the aquamarine feather ends and floral accents really makes this a spectacular statement piece of papering. Panelling this paper inside darkly painted burgundy walls would make this look especially regal and help it transition seamlessly from spring / summer to autumn / winter. But should you wish to go all out with a colour cacophony then the introduction of a vivid indigo purple or bright blue on upholstery would really win the wow factor.
With incredibly bold oversized Chrysanthemums the Tonquin Midnight wallpaper packs enough punch colour-wise for spring with its pops of dusky pink and turquoise but is sophisticated enough with its dark blue base to take centre stage up a sweeping Victorian staircase with high ceilings or be used sparingly in smaller spaces to create a fascinating focal point.
Upholstering a chair in the gorgeous Menagerie Aqua fabric against Tonquin makes for a breathtakingly dazzling pairing. With its leopards, parrots, and water lilies motif you’d be forgiven for assuming you’d landed right in the middle of a Rudyard Kipling novel. It’s simultaneously decadent and romantic.
The Botanical Wonders Wedgewood collection is maximalism in the extreme so fans of beige and grey just look away. But for those of us that want to live in kaleidoscopic colour and feel the tropical sweep of the exotic then get your spring wanderlust into motion with Clarke & Clarke. One thing we can guarantee is that your interiors world will be a lot less boring for it.
