Celebrate Spring with Soft Options Interiors
Fabrics and wallpapers which inspire us with freshness
Colefax & Fowler | Eloise & Leonora Collections
This Sunday marks the first official day of Spring for the Northern Hemisphere, and after what’s been a particularly dreary February we’re focusing on lighter and brighter days here at Soft Options Interiors, which has naturally led us to feel inspired by fabric and wallpaper collections which focus on flora and fauna, alongside fresh and vibrant colour palettes.
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing with you our favourite picks of spring themed collections. Everything we feature will have a freshness and vivacity about them, that links in some way to nature and newness. But when it comes to the season of spring inspiring your interiors, don’t feel that these fabrics won’t work across other times of the year. A spring theme helps to lift your home during the darker winter months, and will transition seamlessly into summertime.
Whereas a darkly decorated dining room is at its best during December, springtime interiors are far more flexible (and naturally evergreen) in nature. They are also easily moved into a more wintery feel, with the introduction of simple darker coloured velvet cushions, and chunky knitted or tweed throws. So, if you’ve previously been more inclined to stick to plainer fabrics and wallpapers in the past, why not discover what the power of a springtime inspired look could do for you?
We are starting our celebration of spring with a look at the Eloise and Leonora collections from Colefax and Fowler. Synonymous with quality and a celebration of English design and tradition, Colefax and Fowler excel at creating fabrics of the highest quality.
The stunning Eloise and Leonora collections are of course no exception. With four different colour options to choose from, the floral Eloise fabric takes the quintessentially English hydrangea into a modern palette which still feels timeless and elegant. There’s a real feeling of countryside romance within this collection, and as pictured here when paired with pale walls and a selection of complimentary fabrics, has an innate charm which overcomes any thoughts that this look is purely ‘seasonal’.
Giving your flooring more gravitas by sticking to dark wood is a great way to ground a lighter floral scheme, making it work well all year round. The addition of 19th century ceramics like the majolica plates pictured, are also the perfect decorative accent. In addition to this upholstering an original fauteuil chair in a complimentary check fabric, makes for another nice texture to add interest, especially when combined with a mid-century coffee table in a warm toned metal.
At the heart of the Leonora collection from Colefax and Fowler is the namesake fabric itself, which moves the chinoiserie motif into a more springtime floral focus. It’s the ideal fabric for a statement chair, as the pattern is large and bold enough to have its own moment without feeling too overpowering or fussy. The dramatic colours within the bird’s plumage, are just enough to give an added zing and vibrancy, but by keeping other decorative touches classic and minimal, you don’t run the risk of overloading the senses.
As pictured here against the subtle pink shade of the block printed Alys fabric, used on a simple blind alongside the delicate butterfly and fern design of Callista which forms the curtains, the Leonora collection displays a true versatility in vision. Don’t be afraid to mix different floral fabrics together – after all birds, butterflies, hydrangeas and hyacinths all co-exist in perfect harmony within a garden – so why not in a home?
