Create a spontaneous interiors feel

With the new Zinc Textile and Martin Hulbert Design Collection.

Are you looking to create a rustic interiors style with fabrics that have an easy charm and handmade allure whilst also placing quality materials at the heart of every product? Then the new collaboration between Zinc Textiles and Martin Hulbert Design (MHD) might just be the perfect collection for you.

Not wanting to create fabrics that looked overtly contemporary or classical, the aim by MHD has been to mix a sense of old and new whilst developing a range that could be seen just as easily covering an antique sofa or chair as it could be placed in a contemporary villa in Corfu. When it comes to creating fabrics for modern interiors, they are passionate about adding soul to schemes through their design process. A hand-crafted sensitivity flows seamlessly across this collection with naïve yet charming motifs used throughout that combine matt textures with elements of shine to capture the light and give an enhanced sense of playfulness.

Frome for instance has a simplicity which is reminiscent of children’s cross stitch patterns but obviously elevated in its design and taken to a luxury level on a sumptuous pure linen cloth. Imagine this in an interior which combines interesting objects from global travels alongside another striking, contrasting fabric textures to bring out the earthy warm tones within the subtle stitching.

Frome is perfect as a backdrop to other vibrant fabrics like Petworth Carnival pictured here on matching stools

The Newlyn range has taken hand drawn watercolour lines and digitally printed them onto a satin linen which makes this fabric feel ethereally fluid and luxurious. With three different colourways to choose from whether you prefer the more neutral Straw option, the cooler blue tones of Seafoam or the soft greys of Smoke the overall effect as a window treatment is sophisticated and effortless.

Fluidity and nature take centre stage with the Newlyn range

Calder is deliberately rustic and hardy in style on an open jute weave. The simple line design allows the beauty of the natural textures to take centre stage. If you’re looking for a fabric which feels honest and clean whilst also being neutral enough to allow for bolder colours, then this is the perfect fabric for you.

Calder is fearlessly rustic

Taking its design lead from traditional techniques like hand block printing and batik the repeating pattern of Loxley is a strong statement but with its delicate circle and trellis motif is still subtle enough to work as an upholstery fabric. If you’re more of a fan of lighter shades then go for the Neutral or Seafoam options, but as pictured here the contrasting teals and greens of Peacock make a beautifully colourful statement. The fact it’s oriented on a smooth, satin live also adds comfort and liveability to this range.

Loxley Peacock is a stunning upholstery fabric

If you love the soothing soft effect of an Ombre fabric then Meon is a great choice for creating a subtle yet colourful statement in your home. When left unlined this fabric gives you a great sheer feeling meaning light diffuses in a gentle way to cast a warmer or cooler tone into your room depending on what colourway you opt for.

Meon makes Ombre effortlessly elegant

One thing is certain with this collection – it feels honest and saturated with carefully chosen techniques, patterns and creative flourishes. Whether you’re wanting to add a touch of handmade charm to an otherwise minimal scheme or you are a fan of global, culturally diverse fabrics the Zinc Textiles and MHD collection will really add a touch of understated quality to your interiors scheme.
